The Best & Healthiest Food Choices

KALE

Consider these choices when making your next food purchases

A local publication a few years back, Healthy Living Healthy Planet, cited some of the best choices" for us all to keep in mind when making our food purchases. These are the choices containing the highest amount of nutrition; vitamins, minerals, trace minerals and phytochemicals. (Phytochemicals-Plant chemical that has been shown to reduce the risk of certain diseases such as cancer and heart disease.)

1-Tart Apples- Granny Smith, Braeburn, Honeycrisp- my favorite and LIberty boosting phytochemicals and fiber while reducing fructose sugars.

2-Canned Beans- (the ones which don't have BHA in the lining of the can which is a hormone disrupter)

Canned beans are said to be better for us than home-cooked beans because the heat used in the canning process enhances their nutritional value. I loved hearing this because who has the time to cook their own beans from scratch!

3-Grass-Fed Beef is higher in vitamin E, beta-carotene, an anti-oxidant and phytochemical and omega-3 fatty-acids than their counter parts, corn-fed beef.

4-Dried Currants (Zanthe-Currants and smaller in size than your typical raisins) have more antioxidants than the brown or yellow type raisin.

5-Red Grapefruit is the choice to make when purchasing this delectable citrus fruit, the darker the red the more beneficial the fruit in helping to lower blood triglcerides.

6-Avacado

The Haas type give us more vitamin E and other antioxidants for smooth skin and shiny hair than the smaller varieties.

7- Raw kale is considered the mighty "king" of the cruciferous family of vegetables in its overall health benefits loaded with vitamin, A,K,C,B6,Manganese, Calcium, Copper,Potassium and Magnesium.

8-Cherry, grape and currant tomato deliver more cancer-preventative lycopene than the beefstake tomato.
